What's a Void Moon?

What the heck is a "Void of Course Moon?" Sounds like a good title for a novel, if nothing else. Except if we began such a novel, we'd want to make sure the Moon is not Void when we begin typing.

A "Void Moon" (more properly called "Void of Course Moon") occurs when the Moon makes her last aspect in whatever zodiac sign she's in and it ends when she enters the next sign. The Moon is said to "carry the light" or energy of all the other planets; their energy must cross the lunar boundary to reach earth.

Have we ever had one of those mind frazzled days when we try and get everything done at once, only to find by such a scattering of goals nothing gets accomplished? Or a day when we just don't really feel like doing anything, but think we should do something so make half-hearted attempts towards some end or other, but nothing really gets done?

Moon Void of Course is  our guiding Moon having one of these days. A "course" is a goal, a direction, "void" is null, and a Void of Course Moon has no direction: she's telling us that at this time goal directed actions are not favored.

It is better to avoid beginning important new projects or buying important or expensive items while the Moon is Void. The traditional meaning of a Void Moon is "nothing will come of it," or it will "fail of its purpose."  Work on old stuff when the Moon is Void, and leave the shopping to people who enjoy standing in return lines.

I like to flip through catalogs or peruse on line merchants for things I want to buy while the Moon is Void.  I like to do this because if we do so, the odds that we'll never actually buy the thing we've decided upon. If we're asking how this is a good thing, we've never read Thoreau.

If we have someone we'd like to tell to go to hell, or some other potentially problematic bit of communication--telling them while the Moon is Void will help the odds that we don't get back what we should have coming to us. "Nothing will come of it." As always, there are exceptions to every rule, so choose your "under Void Moon" confrontations carefully--if we want to test the theory on a leather clad Hell's Angel with "Death Rules" tattooed on his arm we probably have more personal problems than astrology can help.

In using the Void to a-void bad buying times, when does a purchase "count?" Money is congealed energy; nothing illustrates our commitment to an intent so clearly as that moment when we actually turn over our hard won cash. Money changing hands trumps mental, verbal, or written contacts. So it is when the money actually changes hands that is, for us, the "birth" of most purchases.  That said, don't sign contracts when the Moon is Void either, unless we want to test the efficacy of our anti-stress medication.

The postal service provides us with an analogy: If we put a letter in the mailbox, the letter carrier picks it up, reads the address (considers our "intent") and sends the letter on its way. The letter has a goal, a direction, it wants to reach a certain outcome; the postal service aids the achievement of the intent.

But what if we hand it to a stranger who is wandering by? Have we increased or decreased the odds that our letter will get to its destination?  Astrology is probabilities; it tells us what are odds are that events are going to proceed in a particular fashion.

If we hand a letter to just anyone, odds are that they'll simply toss the letter and it'll never reach it's goal. Or, they might read our letter and we end up with outcomes we'd never intended--such as identity theft, or our private note suddenly posted on a blog somewhere. Taking action under a Void Moon is like giving our letters to a stranger--we're more likely to end up having to repay a bill when the check never arrives, or rewrite the note to Aunt Sally who never received her thank you for a birthday gift.

Now that we know what not to do while the Moon is Void, is there anything Void times favor? Any activity in which "nothing will come of it" is a desired outcome is favored by the Void Moon; sending in our tax return form (it will be processed in a mundane manner and there's less likelihood of an audit), avoiding jury duty (send in the jury duty forms when the Moon is Void lessens the chance we'll be picked). Meditative and spiritual pursuits, play, staring at our toes while sipping a martini (hey, you asked).
